New World / Re: New World

I was in the early testing on this game.  Graphically it's really nice, the story has some interesting depths as well.

Unfortunately some of the mechanics were not clear and given the NDA that everyone was under, there wasn't a lot of ways to find answers to questions.  All in all, it's a game I'm looking forward to playing after release.

My retirement fund got wiped out by the Recession.  Lost 15 years.  Only now is it where it was back in 2000. :(

Intel Core i5-6500 6MB Skylake Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80662I56500 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530

...

A friend is saying that I should go for the i5-6600K instead of the 6500.  Any real difference in those besides clock speeds?  Price is nearly the same right now on Amazon (though I'm pretty much waiting a little longer before I'm pulling the trigger on purchasing anything, since the prices have dropped already in the last 2 weeks).

I would be playing most games that the Watch supports, plus I'm supposed to be a Games Tester so I need to be a bit more mid-to-top end, though my budget won't afford top end for a while.  Mostly need something mid-grade and upgradeable as the budget allows.

General Discussion / Rebuilding My Computer (at last)
« on: November 01, 2016, 06:04:56 pm »
Ok folks, I need to rebuild my gaming system because as it is right now, it doesn't game without Blue Screening which doesn't really allow gaming.  And I haven't exactly kept up on processors, motherboards, etc. since I built the dying beast 5 years ago or so.

To save money, I can't just build a new system from scratch (as much as I would love to), so I could use recommendation s on:

  • Processor
  • Motherboard
  • Memory (unless the motherboard can support DDR3)

I'd like to keep the cost below $500 all told, including the cost of Windoze since I probably should move out of Win7 at last.  In troubleshootin g my current system, I've upgraded the video card (GTX 750Ti) and replaced the memory (still DDR3 though) and threw in yet another harddrive (thought the drive that I had the pagefile on was going out and causing the BSODs), so I'm in good shape to keep using what I have in that regards.  And I've got a 750W power supply, so I don't anticipate needing to replace/upgrade that either in the process of getting this computer running.

As for what I'm using currently, it's a AMD Phenom II X4 965 with a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H motherboard, running with 2x4Mb DDR3 ram.  A bit dated but until I started having the BSODs, it could handle almost everything I threw at it.

Sure, make me miss Portland even more. :)

Glad your team did well.

You know... there is always a possibility of getting people together in real life somewhere and doing a tabletop :) Battletech anyone?

Connor

I used to run Battletech games online against some friends with MegaMek.  Haven't looked to see how well it's updated, but it did provide the ability to have true Level 3 spotting rules and such (which did get my head blown off by a hidden mech more than once).

Another Facebook hit...and I nearly clicked it off right at the start since I've seen enough redneck attempts at covers.  But this was really really impressive, especially with the mix of instruments and assorted other items.

This popped up on my Facebook wall.  That impersonator did an awesome job...but it's nice to see Lita Ford is still looking good and performing well.

General Discussion / Adult Women Largest Gaming Demographic

This study has been making some waves in the last few hours.  Pretty much turning a lot of preconceived notions on their heads and of course that's not going over easily.

The study can be found here for those who don't want to read a newsies take on it:

This came across one of my feeds today.  Normally I don't pay much attention to 'new music', but a friend said it was a nice scifi video.  So of course, I had to watch it.  It was actually not that bad IMHO.

I'm not a fan of Snoop Dogg's music, but I think I like this cover.

And then there's Bon Jovi cover all nice and jazzed up.

Given how annoying Tanks has been this summer, this song has found it's way to my playlist once again.

When Galaxies went into the Expansion of Doom, there were several private servers that popped up but SOE hunted them down pretty ruthlessly.  A few were still around when Galaxies died, but I haven't heard of any of them in recent years.

Imagine Grei can place it that song instantly though, pretty sure we've mentioned that one before

Sadly, I couldn't place any of them...though it's late tonight.  I did look her up though and saw that she did the theme Yamato 2199 and Yamato 2199 #4, as well as Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino and Phantom: Requiem.  I can't recall ever watching any of the other anime that she lent her music to.

Yeah, I heard about the vocaloid uninstall song before (maybe it was from Remi, but after this weekend at an Anime con, it could've been just about anyone).

And because I still have a lot of anime odds and ends tumbling through my weekend after Sakura Con:

Might need an insulin shot before watching this one though. :)

Viking metal...your arguments are invalid.

It doesn't seem to exist, Angry.

And since we started down the path of Anime music, I'll add another Macross 7 song to the pile:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NQDYxIMsTU

And something from another series that music was substantially part of, Bubblegum Crisis:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFpemj1Kzt0

And there were so many other series that the music was a part of...either explicitly (like in Macross and BGC) or just such a good part of the background as in what should be H Company's favorite anime:

The Macross debate can be in another thread (though yeah, II was bad--but you didn't mention Plus at all).

Lion is ok, but I like this live medley a bit better. :)

And while Macross 7 the series had issues (flying a Valkyrie with a guitar????)...the music in it was quite good as the medley below (featuring Megumi Nakajima alongside the Firebombers) shows.

Woot, Ranka-chan and the Nyan-nyan commercial. :)

Hey Starfire, did you hear that there's going to be another Macross series soon?

Tonight for dinner, instead of reading the news, saw me digging through the Postmodern Jukebox.  Here's a few that I've enjoyed.

I really would like to know how I totally missed the 'I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper' all these years, given the various space themed and parody songs I've collected.

General Discussion / Re: Should Developers Sell Early Access?
« on: February 07, 2014, 04:56:39 am »
I have to agree that the big houses don't have any justifiable reason to be selling early access.  They're usually the ones bragging about how much money they're already making.

Still, I can't fault them for seeing how the smaller companies are using early access to bring in early revenue and wanting part of that pie.

Though given my past track record with Sony's betas and how they test one game and release a totally different game, they'll never see me buy-in to beta test their stuff.  SWG and EQ2 both come to mind where a last minute gameplay change never went into testing to 'preserve the surprise', of which the change was not widely appreciated by the testing community.

Frankly, I have no problems pitching money towards promising games from the Indies.  I've had a lot of luck with finding games that I enjoy, such as Minecraft, Kerbal Space Program, Starbound, and Star Citizen most of which I expect to play for years to come (already been playing Minecraft for years).

The same can't be said of games from the big names though.  Almost every game from the big companies in recent years have been the kind where I play it while it's 'new' and then rarely, if ever, go back to it--usually because it's not what was advertised, or just didn't play that well, or was just monotonous.

Rather amusing at how quite a few of the games were shut down here in the States yet are still going strong in Asia and elsewhere.

Of course, Lineage was rather late to the f2p table here in the States, which along with it being aimed at the Asian market didn't help it much.  Still can't figure out why, with the way American gamers tend to like so much of the Asian culture, they have problems playing Asian oriented games.
