Shameless Self-Promotion
« on: March 08, 2008, 07:49:43 am »
I've been out of the radio biz for over seven years now, but I've been missing it.  So, I signed up for a class at CSU Stanislaus: "Broadcast Radio Laboratory."  The laboratory part being that I get to do a show on the local college radio station, KCSS.

Now that I have a couple shows under my belt, and I'm starting to "get my groove back" (like Stella did... or maybe I'm finding a New Groove, like the Emperor...), I figured I should promote my self-serving ass.

I'm on the air Friday nights from 6 to 8 pm PST (that's 9 to 11 pm for the east coasters... the rest of you can figure it out for yourselves).  The format is "Modern Rock," and I lean toward the more rockin' stuff.

I imagine you're thinking to yourself, "Self, I can't pick up that radio station.  I don't live anywhere near Turlock, California."

Well, Self... don't be a idiot.  This is the new millennium, where you can get anything and everything over the internet!  For free!  And crappy college radio shows are right there for your listening pleasure!

You can find a link to listen online here:  http://kcss.net

I take requests.  I probably won't play them, but I'll definitely take them.  I hope you'll make me the soundtrack to your next LAN party!

Thanks to everyone for their interest and support!

I'm not sure if the audio stream was working tonight.  We were having some technical difficulties.  Unfortunate, because this was definitely my best show so far.  I'm starting to get the hang of this stuff again!

Not sure if I'll be on next Friday, as I might be out of town for the holiday.  The following week is Stanislaus' spring break, so I'm definitely off.

I haven't heard of Latour.  I'll see if I can look up something on them.  Anybody have any requests?

Thanks for trying to listen!

Basically, when I got to the station, the transmitter was offline.  We were able to fix that pretty quick.  But when I was getting ready to leave, automation wouldn't come on (I'm the last live DJ of the evening).  The computer that runs the automation had crashed, and the software that serves the webcast runs off the same box.

Welcome to the low-budget world of college radio!

I'm off for the next two weeks (Spring Break).  I'll be back on April 4th!

Don't feel bad, I still consider the Sex Pistols and Joy Division modern rock.

I know there's a Garbage CD in the library, and I just played the Ramones and New Order, so I think I can handle some "old school" modern rock, too!

To update, obviously I wasn't on the air tonight due to spring break and traveling.  It's looking like I will indeed be on the air on this coming Friday.  That being said, we're supposed to close on a new house this week, so anything can happen.  Still, I'll try to be there, and get your requests on the air!

By the way, the live feed goes through Live365, and I've heard from some folks that have had a hard time making the plug-ins work.  Go to www.live365.co m if you want to make sure you have what you need to listen in.  Thanks again!

I wish I could tune in your show, but I have to work Friday evenings. Maybe when I'm on break I can tune in for a bit.

Well, I managed to get Daxe's request on tonight, and a shout-out to Dom.  I'd call it a success!

I've got a lot of positive feedback on tonight's show, and I appreciate it!  I feel like I've got the music about where I want it, but still haven't given my best performance as an on-air "personality."  I need stuff to talk about!  Anyway, it's fun!

If you have any requests, post 'em a day or two ahead of time, and I'll do what I can to get them on the air.  Our library is somewhat limited, but I can always bring stuff from home... I just need to know ahead of time!  Thanks again!
